For most of 2024 and 2025, the consensus trade on Wall Street was 'long gold into a Fed pivot.' With the pivot now widely expected to land in H2 2026, that trade is largely priced in. The daily gold chart has flattened, intraday volatility has compressed, and retail momentum traders have rotated into silver and platinum for the next leg of precious-metals upside.
This is not bearish for gold — it is bullish over a 12–18 month horizon. The structural drivers that took gold from $1,800 in 2022 to above $5,000 in March 2026 have not reversed: US sovereign debt is now above $36 trillion, the dollar's share of global reserves has fallen below 58%, and central-bank gold buying is on track for a third consecutive year above 1,000 tonnes.
The most important medium-term variable is real interest rates. If the Fed delivers even a modest 75–100 basis points of cuts through the back half of 2026, real yields compress meaningfully, removing the headwind that has capped gold's multiples for two years. Macro allocators running GIPS-compliant mandates typically target a 2–4% portfolio allocation to physical gold, and many are still significantly below that benchmark.
For UAE investors, the practical implication is to use the current consolidation phase as an accumulation window rather than waiting for a pullback that may never come. AED-denominated prices are anchored to the same spot feed and benefit from the same USD/AED stability provided by the dirham's 3.6725 peg.
IBV Gold FZCO quotes live AED prices across 1oz to 1kg gold bars and the full sovereign-coin catalogue (Krugerrand, Maple Leaf, Britannia, American Eagle, Philharmonic, Kangaroo, Panda).
